A Trip through VA (lots o photos) - 09-02-2010, 03:32 AM

Took a trip down through the Shenandoah Valley / Blue Ridge Parkway, did some hiking and shot some photos...
A couple of Watersnakes lying in wait along a stream:

A Black Rat Snake we surprised...he put on a good show :)

We found LOTS of B-Flys

And finally...my dad got tired of listening to my brother's constant complaining about the heat and shoved him off the mountain

Sorry bout so many pictures. There were actually WAY more but, I kinda liked these.
Jason

Very nice series Jason...beautiful butterflies...can't believe not one bird picture...need more details about that last shot...the surrounding terrain gives the impression of a very steep drop...

You're right! So here's one of the bird photos :)

It was a very steep drop but there was ground right below him. Not as high as it looks but we thought it looked pretty cool :)

Jason,

Great series. The pattern on that opaque watersnake looks cool. Is it sipedon?
I like the sky reflections on the black rat skin. It adds a nice "feel" to the photo.
The last one is incredible. Even though we know it is not what it appears, it looks so real it is unsettling! Well done.

Yea Chris, they are both sipedon. The juvinile had a cool pattern on him. I was gonna get him out of the water for some better shot of the pattern but right before I snatched him up, he took off under a big rock.

Very nice set of photos Jason. It's hard to pick a favorite. I'd have to say I like the bird shot the best (I don't know my birds). I like the different colors surrounding the bird. It makes him stand out.

Jason, thanks for the bird picture...if you could have just persuaded the goldfinch to turn around so that you could have got the light just right...
