camera shy hummingbirds - 09-13-2010, 04:29 PM

I was trying to get some decent photos of Buff-bellied Hummingbirds at the feeders at Estero Llano Grande state park over the labor day weekend. Came up short and came up with a few shots where the wings covered the face. However, in this one I like the fact that you could actually see the hummer peeking out through the primary feathers.

I was trying to get some photos of them feeding on "natural" objects, and I thought I nailed this one of a Ruby-throated Hummer......stupid stigma!

I did get a few keepers though. Always fun shooting hummers at a feeder, if you have the patience.

C&C always welcome.

Chris

Nice Chris, I like the second shot even with the obstruction. Shooting hummers is fun but not easy. I usually shoot a lot for just a few keepers.

I like the spred of the first one with the eye showing through and the setting of the second one. I agree with Dan, "fun to shoot but not easy". I just clicked off over 1000 this past weekend and I hate to even think of sitting down to look. You had fun and got some keepers that's the main thing.

I see them feeding on the Turks caps at BBSP but they are much too fast for me to shoot....all I get is blurs.

Very nice Chris. The first one is a good shot with the eye behind the wing.

Nice shots of a difficult subject Chris. I like the #1 shot also. David had an excellent point about the eye. Sweet.
