Greetings From Yellowstone - 09-20-2010, 05:33 PM

I woke up at 3 AM and ventured to Lamar Valley and caught a glimpse of this magnificent bison. Just a taste until the rest of the photos are done. My internet is lacking and cell phone has no coverage.

They are so amazing to see in person!! The dominant bull of the group was very vocal. I stayed in my car for this one as he was diagonal across the road. Did not try to use the Better Beamer w/ fash as I was worried I would spook him. He crossed the road behind my car. Took a photo from my side mirror but did not turn out to well.

There are several fires in the park and one section that connects the south east to the north part of the park was closed.

Thank you!! You would think this guy would be packing it up and moving along but he was just putting something away so he could keep shooting. The bison was walking towards his car.

I'm so jealous! We were there in late May/early June for the first time and I am trying to figure out how to get back!

Funny thing about bison (and elk, for that matter) is that after a day or so, we got so used to seeing them that we didn't pay that much attention to them. Bears and wolves, on the other hand, always got our attention.

Hopefully the bears haven't started to move to their dens yet. It has been, by all accounts, a spectacular year for bears.

I have seen 3 black bears so far... but not much for photo ops. From what I hear, the grizzly, cinnamon, and black bears have all been spotted in the last few days.

On my way back, I stopped in Teton National Park and experimented with shooting the Mount Moran in the light of the full moon....

I wouldn't mind seeing a larger version of the first photo in your last post. Maybe clone out the 2 objects in the water.

Sure. I'll edit and repost. I need to work on scaling the photos for posting... these look a lot less sharp than the originals. With a new camera body and trying to use a different post process... I am a little challenged right now.

There are so many places that I want to stop and photograph... just wish there were more hours in the day. Each day is a gift. The weather is beautiful today. Still fires buringing near the airport and in Yellowstone but
the haze is not near as bad from them.
