A trip to the store - 10-26-2010, 04:23 AM

Swung by Benbrook Lake on Sunday as I was on my way to the store. This hawk was flying low so I took a few shots of him in flight with the 500mm hand held bracing against the door and roof of the truck.

I got the ID on this one. Red tailed Hawk. I love this time of year when they start showing up.

They are a tough one to capture. Usually as soon as you get out of the car to get a bead on them they go high and fly off quickly. Thanks again for your comments Dennis.

Sidney I think that would be a great advantage.

Cool shots, Ken. As you can tell from the first shot, the reason he didn't take off was because he was checking to see if lunch had just shown up.

Sidney, I like your idea, but I don't think I'd completely do away with the windshield. I don't think you want to eat that much dust or bugs. You might consider rigging the windshield like they had on the old WWII/Korean War jeeps, with the windshield on hinges, so that you could raise or lower it as necessary.

While you're there, you might as well mount a tripod next to you.
