Bees - new shot added 11/18 - 11-17-2010, 05:02 PM

Live photo subjects are getting scarse around here & I'm not getting around good enough to hunt for them, but found a couple of willing subjects today. It was mid afternoon before I realized the bees were on my passionflower vine & they would only stay on each bloom a couple of seconds so I had to shoot fast. Because of my knee, I had to just stretch out on the ground near a cluster of blooms & wait for the bees to come to me. I'm going to watch out for them and see if they are coming earlier in the day & maybe staying on the blooms a little longer. Hopefully better shots are coming soon.

30D, Tamron 180mm, 430EX on bracket (still need to modify my lighting), handheld
ISO 200, f16, 1/250 sec.

Thanks Garret. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get on the ground with my bum leg and afterwards I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get back up on the crutches. Good thing the camera wasn't in someone elses hands while I was struggling.

From the angle I am forced to shoot it is hard to get a head shot, but this is a little closer.

Wow! Wait a second, did you get a new lens? This last last photo is way over the top with clarity!

Thanks Sandy. It's not new but I picked up a Tamron 180mm a few weeks ago to use with the more skidish critters. It has taken an adjustment in my handholding technique to get sharp images from it, but I think I may be getting the hang of it.

I like the last image the best Dan - the first two appear a little dark to me.

Thanks John. In the first 2 shots because of my position the vines were partially blocking my light. I had a little better position yesterday with the last shot.
