Though technically not the best photo, if it doesn't make you say 'Awww' there may be something wrong with you. This is Reya, my nieces new Welsh Corgi pup, and she was the star of the show at the family Thanksgiving dinner. I've already told my niece that I wanted to do a portrait shoot with Reya using my studio gear while she is still young.

30D, Sigma 24-70 f2.8, 430EX, ISO 200, f5.6, 1/125 sec.

How Cute! I used to have a Corgi Pembroke that looked almost like this one. She made a wonderful pet. A sweet little dog.
Tell your daughter to watch her weight as mine tended to eat everything she could find to eat and became overweight easily. And to be prepared for a lot of dog hair. That little gal I had must have shed her bodyweight in hair every 3 months! Whew!!! But she was a sweet loving pet.

Thanks Paul. My niece researched dogs for probably 3 months before deciding on the Corgi.

lol, that's pretty much the response she got from everyone yesterday. My wifes 88 year old dad spent most of the afternoon carrying & playing with the puppy like a little kid.

This all reminds me...
The Corgi was bred as a herding dog. The Flemish farmers would use those little dogs to herd the cattle and to keep the cattle out of their gardens. They would nip at the cattle's heels to make them move. If the cattle kicked, the Corgi was so short the kick usually passed over the top of them
My Corgi was named Ginger. The herding characteristic of her breed became very evident when it was getting close to her mealtime. She would get right behind my wife's feet and try to herd her toward the kitchen. If Judy would stop...Ginger would stop. If Judy backed up...Ginger backed up. When Judy moved foreword Ginger moved foreword, like she was herding Judy toward the food! It was really kind of comical, watching her herd Judy like that. lol!
Oh yeah...Ginger could be Stubborn too, when she wanted to have something her way. Very Stubborn!!!
But she was a sweet loving little friend and companion.

I'm not sure how my niece decided on the name or if she realized the meaning of it, but Reya is spanish for queen. That may be an indication of who will end up ruling the household.

Tho not Spanish, Queen Elizabeth of England is a great lover of Corgi's. She has always had Corgi's. Her Corgi's have always been descendants of a Corgi she had as a child. Corgi's are usually present in portraits painted of her. I'll bet that is where your neice got the idea! I'll bet she knew what it meant.
