A trip to San Bernard NWR - a bunch of shots - 01-01-2011, 10:52 PM

On the recommendation of TimT, and armed with some aditional advice from Sandy (Corralup), I made my first trip to San Bernard NWR this new year's morning. Thanks so much for the advice guys, it was an amazing place! I couldn't believe the variety of birds there. The only problem is that it really drove home the point that I definately need a longer lens for those wide open spaces. Many of these shots were cropped just as far as I could push them.

Here's some of what I ran across...C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Very impressive BIF series! I went Friday when it was raining a little. I'm still working on my photos. It's the best it's been in a long time I think.

Great series Patrick. Love the harrier and the dive bomb shots. Very cool. Glad to see that you made it out there yesterday. I was there at 6:30 a.m. when it was too cloudy and only a couple hundred geese in the pond.

I would definately recommend it - I was amazed at the diversity of birds there, including just about every raptor in the region.

Thanks again for your advice Sandy - it was very helpful. Too bad about it being the best in a long time...I was hoping it was this way all the time! Looking forward to seeing your shots.

I got there a bit later than planned and did the first drive around the pond at about 8:30am and the clouds were just starting to break-up. After that, I hiked around the Wolfweed Wetlands for a while and then did a second driving tour of the pond. It was clear skies and the geese were streaming back into the pond. Really cool sight. Thanks again for recommendation and the advice!
