While looking at google maps, I noticed that there are some new housing developments in that area that I was not familiar with...think I will drive through there and see if I can spot some home owners and ask them if they've seen any activity by the eagles...

Thanks Dan and John for your comments...
Dan: Not sure how to do the google map thing...don't use it that often...if you're familiar with Dixie Farm Road you should be able to locate that area on Google maps...I drove through the neighborhood next to those woods on Thursday...talked to couple of residents...neither had seen or heard of any Eagle activity...one of the residents told me that he has some chickens in his backyard and that he has lots of trouble with the hawks trying to catch them...

I've never been close enough to these guys to get a decent shot, we see them from time to time in different areas of Texas, but always at a distance. Good ones here.

Ron- Is there any new finding regarding this? Quote:

Does anyone can tell what kind of birds there are in Bolivar now? I want to make a trip this weekend if the weather is reasonable. Are there hawks?
Thx! | | | |

If you "friend" the Pearland Facebook page there is a recent picture of this nest. It was originally posted to be located at Fite and Harkey roads close to a tree farm. I believe the location was later removed. I am going to look for it tomorrow. Good luck. It is awesome to have a nest in Pearland! | | | |

It is awesome to have a nest in Pearland! | That's great news Martha...thanks for posting...I've seen at least three different Bald Eagles at El Franco Lee Park this winter...two adult birds and one juvenile...have not been close enough to get any photos so far this year...there is usually an appearance at the park by at least one of them each day...hopefully someone will be able to locate the nest and post info here...

Eagles were also nesting at Tom Bass Park/Clear Creek Golf Course a couple of years ago. The guy at the pro shop told me where they hung out and let me walk out and take some flight photos, but wouldn't tell me where the nest was. He said to ask the course manager. I did and he told me exactly where to go to see them in flight and what time, but said they were not revealing where the nest was to protect the birds. Even though it wasn't the right time, I went where he said and I did see them.
Maps show where I was.

Visited the Bald Eagle's nest in Pearland yesterday afternoon...unlike the Baytown nest, this nest is very accessible...probably too accessible...the nest is located in a pine tree along a fence line next to an open field area...there is nothing to prevent anyone from walking right up to the tree...from the size of the nest I would guess that it may be three years or older...Dan Pancamo has generated a map for the nest location and also has included on his map suggested viewing areas to preserve privacy and not disturb the nesting Eagles...his suggested viewing area provides an excellent view of the nest as well as photographing the nest...so I would recommend if you do visit the nesting site, please keep a safe distance from the nest so not to disturb the birds...I was only there for about 30 minutes...only saw the one adult bird sitting on the nest...not sure about what perching areas might be used by the adult birds when not on the nest...here are a few photos I took of the nest...
