Deer Camp Critters Part 1 - Birds - 01-12-2011, 10:40 AM

Traveled out to the hill country (Fredricksburg area) this past weekend with my oldest son so that he could do some doe hunting and I could do some photo shooting...weather was beautiful on Saturday but woke up Sunday morning with rain...due to number of photos, will break this up into two parts...Part 1 for the birds and Part 2 for the animals...combined with a large tank in the front of the deer camp and a deer feeder next to the camp, there was plenty of bird activity...here are a few of my favorites from the weekend...included the Kingfisher...not a great shot but the best I've managed of this bird so far...this Kingfisher kept coming back to the same perching area at the tank...so I decided that when it left I would go around and position myself in some tall grass close to this area hoping that I would be able to get some good shots...well each time the Kingfisher returned to this tank, he refused to come back to this perching area...guess maybe he could see me or sense me...Bird ids: #1,2,8,9 - Tufted Titmouse (Black-creasted form), #3 - Belted Kingfisher, #4,5,6,7,10,11,12,18 - Cardinal, #13 - Rufous-crowned Sparrow, #14,15,17 - Western Meadowlark, #16 - Spotted Towhee...hope you enjoy...comments always welcomed...

Ron

A wonderful way to kill[pun intended] some time at the deer lease, Ron. Lovely images and quite a variety.

Very nice series Ron with lots of variety. Way to make good use of your time there. I really like the low level ones on the ground. Good work.
