Just Before Sunrise With Better Beamer - San Diego

One of my goals during my trip to San Diego was to use fill flash extensively. This morning everything came together and the 5D MKII delivered such amazing colors. It Paid off to be there before everyone and this Western Gull posed for us.

I had such a great time in San Diego. I can't wait to go back next year.

Hope you like it.

Canon 5D MK II, 400mm L @ f/8, 1/500 sec, ISO 800, 580EX II with Better Beamer set to manual, hand-held, no sharpening.

Thanks!

Wow, that's a beautiful shot! So how close were you? And what's a better beamer? Did it not scare the bird away?

Hi,

No. I did not scared the bird away. This location is fantastic for fill flash photography. I had my flash set to a manual zoom and at -1. I was about 10 feet away.

A better beamer is a flash extender that you attach to your flash until allowing you to send the flash beam further away.

During my workshop next year, I will cover fill flash extensively at this location.

Thanks!

Great capture, I like that the blue doesn't cut through the Westen Gull body. Colors are very good making for a pleasing photo. Well done.
