Winter in Yellowstone - 03-02-2011, 11:04 AM

I had the opportunity to run over to Yellowstone last weekend and grab a few shots. Got a few uploaded last night and thought I’d share them.

Man, was it cold, -20 in the mornings. Fun time though.

Please feel free to add comments and let me know how you like them.

These are some of the most beautiful shots of yellow stone that I have seen in years. Great captures, so clear, sharp, and beautiful. Your talent and skills really shows here.

Great shots, I'm envious of your trip as well. I love the ones with the fox, what a beautiful creature.

Who says the D300 is obsolete! Were you shooting a 300mm F2.8 + TC-14E converter? Terrific stuff. -20....yikes!

I used to have a 300/2.8 but found I didn't carry it much due to size and weight. I sold it and picked up the 300/4 and used the 1.4 and 1.7 TC on most of the shots... had no issues with autofocus with the 1.7 which i was glad about.

I have decided to keep my d300 for the crop factor advantage.

Also used auto ISO on both the d300 (1600 ISO as high mark) and d700 (2000 ISO as high mark) to keep my shutter speed as high as possible. It worked like a charm.

I also kept a 1.4 on my 70-200 for closer shots. I dearly love the d700 but am quite pleased with the performance of my little d300 :)

Nice set of winter images.....the variety of wildlife you were able to capture was great.

I particularly liked the red fox images. Really well done throughout.

Good work. We just got back a couple weeks ago from our trip. We stayed at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch and it got down to -43F one night. Really cold. Check out our link in this forum!!! Nice work again.
