Unusual duck - 03-06-2011, 09:42 AM

Found this Chocolate/Indian Runner x Mallard duck at a local pond in Spring this week. After surfing a bunch on them, I can't find another with this coloring, although they descended from Mallards so it's probably not completely unique.

I'm wondering if its a hybrid of a mallard, and something else. the body stance, and structure look like a Black Bellied whistling duck

If you look up an Indian Runner Duck, that's what the body shape and behavior is. It ran upright instead of squatted down like most ducks do. Was taller and a bit thinner. And I read that they don't fly long distances so I wonder how it got there. There's no river or lake connected or nearby. He's very pretty!
