A Few From The Zoo - 03-14-2011, 09:47 AM

Critique: CC:

Went to the San Antonio Zoo this past week. Now that we have hit daylight savings time, the early morning viewing should be much better. Most animals were already bedded down for the afternoon naps on my trip.

Clouded Leopard

West African Crowned Crane

Cattle Egret

These were taken with a Canon 100-400mm IS. It is one of my favorite lenses... only wish it was a 2.8 for more flexibility on background separation.

Great job. Only nit is you might add a little fill light to bring out the eyes on the leopard.

I'll give it a try! I appreciate the input and comments.

With the leopard, there was not much light coming in from the sides of the enclosure which put some bad shadows at the neck and eyes. Overall, the conditions were not that great, shooting at an angle through dirty glass and ISO 1250 at f/5 and 1/100s.

Attempted to brighten the eyes. Not sure if it is enough. Also reduced the shadow under the neck....

Great shots Jennifer. I like your cropping. On the Leopard besides some fill light, you might try to decrease the blacks in Lightroom and see how it looks. The crown of the head may come into a little better focus.
