Tripod Platform - Great View - 05-11-2011, 01:47 PM

Critique: NC:

Went to H.I. yesterday afternoon. After awhile I moved to the tripod platform to practice BIF's handholding the 500mm. An alligator got a bird but a larger one wanted a free meal. So the chase was on lasting a little while as they rested in between. Finally the smaller one had enough and dropped his loot.

Good stuff! Nice to know "the platform" is good for something other than sunburn. You don't think that was the plan all along, do you???

No pics og the gator coughing afterwards and feathers coming out?

If you're handholding a 500mm all day, you might be able to wrestle that gator. :)

Great captures! Sure hate to see the pretty bird as a meal though!

Terrific action series, but I'm with Beth - hate to see it happen to good looking bird. Gators are supposed to stick to the crawfish and an occasional turtle...

Thanks for viewing. The gators are starting to stake out the trails as the birds come down for water. Saw three of them trying to get in better position for a meal. As for the 500mm it was on the tripod most of the time but wanted the practice of BIF....much better but heavy. Still going through a few I will post.

You want to see something ironic? Here we have a egret eating a reptile and it's not just one it was several. So the way I see it is what comes around goes around. Just in a smaller version. Thanks for sharing that, David.
