Egret in mid-flight - 05-16-2011, 04:08 PM

Critique: NC:

Never have shot birds before but took a trip down to the rookery on the UT Southwestern campus and was amazed at the number of nesting egrets there at this time of the year.

Here's my first ever in flight shot.

As always, C & C are always much appreciated.

I was shooting handheld with a Nikon D7000 coupled with a Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II.

Pretty darn good I'd say for hand held and with a big piece of glass to boot.

I like that he/she has the branch; tells a little bit of a story because you know its working on a nest somewhere.

Very nicely done for your first attempt Jeff. It's always a challenge with white birds getting the exposure just right. Just be careful, as it can be addictive.

Thanks for the comment, Tim - sure appreciate it. And yes, I can imagine that bird photography could become addictive.

Thanks, Jim - I'm sure I had a bit of "rookies luck" going with me yesterday.
