White Ibis and a side order of Bokeh - 05-17-2011, 09:44 PM

Critique: CC:

I was pleased with the bokeh that the Nikkor 70-300mm VR ll produced when coupled with the Nikon D7000 on this shot of a white ibis at the UTSW rookery near downtown Dallas.

C & C always welcome and appreciated.

Thanks, Robert - the light was excellent at the rookery yesterday and I was very pleased to be able to spot and photograph an ibis. There are hundreds of egrets present, but the ibis was elusive this week.

Very nice DOF Jeff and your right about the bokeh! I've got the old AF 75-300/4.5-5.6 and it does pretty good too...it's my bird shootin' lens out at BBSP, well when I shoot birds.

Very nice shot Jeff. I'm going to have to make a trip to Dallas and visit the rookery this week. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Ken - and this weekend would be a good one to visit since the egret chicks are still in the nests but are growing up fast. The catttle egrets are on their nests but don't have chicks yet.

Nice shot Jeff!! That lens is underrated in my opinion. Since I'm not really a pro shooter, my 70-300 vr was good enough for me to sell my 70-200/2.8 VR.

Thanks, Leon....and I concur with your assessment. What made it really good at the rookery is its light weight since I was shooting upwards 95% of the time.

I'm keeping my 70-200mm f/2.8 but I'm very pleased with the image quality that the 70-300 produces.

Nice work with the exposure on this image, Jeff - looks like a tough one to get right.
