Eastern Yellow-Bellied Racer (Adult) - 06-03-2011, 04:26 PM

Critique: NC:

While in Huntsville recently I was just sitting and looking out the back window in the middle of the day. Then, I see Lennox the cat coming home through the woods with a snake. It was limp as in dead. I grabed my camera wanting a shot of him carrying the snake but no luck. He got close then laid it down and started grooming. I told my brother in-law so he wanted to remove the snake. As he got closer to the snake I could see through the lens he was starting to move so I warned him. He got a stick and tried to move him and he took off like a "Racer" climbing a small bushy tree. Here is where it really got interesting for me. A small bird saw him and sounded the alarm and it went crazy. It was like every bird in the woods had to come look. They were landing everywhere in the bush and near by trees. Even a couple of wook peckers came by for a look. These birds were almost at arms length from me and could care less. They just wanted to hollower at the snake. Most where so close I couldn't even take a picture. This went on pretty heavy for about 15 minutes. After an hour it was time for a nap. When I got up the snake was gone. Just never know what is going to happen next.

Amazing! I saw one of these on my land last weekend but he really didn't make it. Mine was accidentally killed by a tire. Took me a while to find the ID on it. I'll post a shot of him later.

Thanks everyone, I seem to be running into more snake lately. Not sure if that is good or bad.
