While shooting hummingbirds this morning I had an audience for a while. I took the opportunity to use this subject to practice my wildlife black & white conversions. Converted with Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.

B&W sure lets it blend into the background...I like it Dan!

Thank you Jim. In the past I have only used black & white for landscape, portrait & architectural. But in a recent Outdoor Photographer magazine there was some amazing B&W wildlife shots and I wanted to try it out. Of course not every shot converts very successfully.

I think it works well here Dan. Though you might try to bring up the light on the rabbit's back side to show a little more detail.

Thanks David. I put a control point on his head to lighten it a little and thought about doing the same on its back. Not sure why I didn't.

Of course I was a huge Velvia fan after shooting the first roll ...

Like the contrast, how the head and ears jump out. Good job Dan.

Nice shot! Good comp and detail.
I think if you lighten up the background or the subject some to show more of a divergence from the contrast of the two that your subject would pop better.
Having shot B&W film and slides for 35 years contrast and shading can make a big difference in how you showcase the subject of your shot.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
He came back out for a visit again this morning, so here is another version. Yes, it is still a little dark, for some reason I seem to gravitate toward the darker end. Was playing around with the software some more trying to decide whether to plop down the cash for the full version.

I like the BG in the first photo better...this one makes me nervous with all the lines.

I agree about the background Jim. My subject didn't do a very good posing job this time and wouldn't move away from the fence.

I like the second one better. Background OK with me, just lets us know
he is an urban rabbit. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
