Bird ID? - 07-31-2011, 07:41 AM

Critique: NC:

Folks, I'm wondering if one of the bird experts here can identify the bird in the following link? I took a picture of it at the Houston Zoo. As I recall, it stood only maybe 15" tall or so. It looks sort of like an egret, but doesn't seem to have the long neck that I typically associate with them.

Photo :: Egret?

TIA!

I agree with Patti. You can just see a hint of brown on the back and on top of the head.

Ditto.
Here's your shot

Here's a shot I took of a Snowy Egret & a Cattle Egret at the zoo several years ago.

Thank's, y'all. I had looked up cattle egrets, but the photos I was finding were way too brown for me to think it was one. And now that you've drawn my attention to it, I do just see the trace of brown atop its head.

BTW, Bruce, that is a very nice shot!

Appreciate it!

Since taking that photo, I've added a few nicer lenses to my arsenal, so I need to get back to the zoo and maybe even BBSP and see if I can do a bit better job this time around.
