A few heron images... - 08-08-2011, 09:47 PM

Critique: NC:

I shot these a little over a week ago at a local pond here in Austin. These were taken fairly early in the morning, before the heat got ramped up. The first is a Yellow-crowned Night Heron, followed by two young Green Herons learning to fish on their own, and a shot of momma Green Heron overseeing the confused little ones.

All images were shot with an Olympus E-5 and Sigma 50-500mm w/ 1.4 TC.

God Bless,
Greg

Greg:

Three nice photos.
I'd rank them in this order: #2, #3, #1.

I especially like #2. A shot you do not often get.

If this pond had public access, would you mind sharing its location?

Grady,

Thank you for the comments! The pond does have public access. It is located in an Austin City Park called "Northwest Park" -- located in north central Austin. I've been shooting there for many years -- portraits, landscapes, and nature photos.

God Bless,
Greg

Greg, these are some neat looking birds. My favorite is the last one. I had a question about your camera and sent you a PM.

Christine,

Thank you for the nice comment, and I hope your new Canon arrives quickly! A site called "BetterPhoto.com" offers a number of on-line photography courses by some really good instructors. I have read a lot of good things about their courses.

I wish you the best, and hope you really enjoy your new camera!

God Bless,
Greg

David,

Thanks for the comment. They are really cute little guys. It was fun to watch mom show up with a nice fish she had caught -- the little ones would chase her all over the place, since their catch was pretty slim. She wouldn't share with them though -- I'm sure part of her teaching regimen -- it's a shame more human parents don't get that! :-)

God Bless,
Greg

Greg,

Will check out BetterPhoto.com. I have been wanting to take some classes but seems like nothing is close by where I am. I also didnt know where to start with online courses. Thanks so much :)

All very nice shots, but I too am partial to the one of the chicks. They are hilarious! They just have that "What do we do now?" look to them. Nice work, Greg.

Christine,

I hope you enjoy BetterPhoto.com!

Sid,

Thanks for the nice comment. Those little ones were a bit confused, but they were catching a few minnows.

God Bless,
Greg
