While we were at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, there were times when da bears (old Saturday Night Live joke! ) would come into close proximity to each other. This of course led to some opportunities for conflict, especially when there was a female Grizzly nearby.
These conflicts could escalate and go on for what seemed like many, many seconds. There would be teeth being bared, claws slashing through the air, and occasionally one would land a massive blow to the other, but it never seemed to phase the other combatant. The battle would just go on.
One bear might get knocked down briefly, but always seemed to muster the strength to get back up before the other could deal a death blow or bite. It would seem to rejoin the battle with renewed determination and adrenaline.
Finally one Grizzly would just decide he had had enough, and they would walk away from each other, without a clear winner.
I was fortunate to have witnessed this amazing spectacle several times during our stay at SSCL. Fortunately, none of the bears was seriously injured during any of their encounters that I could tell. I guess they were generally pretty evenly matched.
Many men have fought over the affections of a beautiful woman. Here is a shot of the prize that would seem to initiate the fury of the two pugilists I witnessed this particular day! She actually seemed pretty oblivious to what was about to transpire!
And now, here is my record of "The Epic Battle of the Grizzlies".
And finally one one of them gave up, and they both ran back to mom!!
I again played with the video on the 7D a few times with the cubs, and got some neat footage of them playing in various places.
This is one of my favorite clips I got of them. They were on the beach, and found an old log that was hollowed out. They proceeded to enjoy a quick game of "Hide and Seek".
I hope you enjoyed. As always, thanks for looking!
Sucked me into looking forward to swwing two massive gizzlies battling it out, and then laughed. Each episode has made me more jealous and yearning to get there soon. Thanks Sid for the great stories and fantastic pictures.
