Three hawks are they different - 09-30-2011, 02:12 PM

Critique: NC:

There are three hawk pictures one is clearly a Red tail as can be seen from the tail color. The second one not sure I think looks like RTH. Third one is certainly not an RTH. Not an expert some identification help is appreciated

The third is a Coopers Hawk I believe. The other 2 look like redtails? I really like the third.

I'm thinking that the first two are red-tailed hawks and the third is likely a Coopers Hawk but I keep confusing Coppers with Sharp-shinned Hawks. So I think Trey and I are in agreement.

Scott, Trey Thanks for the ID help.
I am not sure why the second ones tail is so different than the first one. The second one looks a bit older and mature to me.

Interestingly these two were sitting on the same tree on different limbs. RTH was not facing the light it and hence the shot was not as good as the coopers

Very nice, clear, sharp photos. I especially like the last one. Great expression captured.

The first one is an adult RTH. Juvi RTHs don't have red tails.
