Friday At The Bend.... - 10-01-2011, 11:22 AM

Critique: NC:

Well the wife and her sisters headed out of town Thursday evening for some weekend shopping in Canton...so I had Friday all to myself...after some decision making, I decided to head out to Brazos Bend State Park...after seeing some recent post from the park showing all the dry conditions, I wanted to get a first hand look for myself...got a little late start Friday morning...as I was driving down 288, I decided that I was not going to make the park before sunrise...so I pulled off on one of my favorite country roads CR 60 for some sunrise photos...checked into the park...Park Ranger said they got about 1 1/2 inches of rain Thursday evening...headed back to Elm Lake and started slowly walking around the lake...so sad to see how low the lakes are...finally reached the trail between Elm and 40 Acre Lakes...as I walked this trail, I remembered Sandy saying what an eerie feeling it was walking on this trail...I was the only one on the trail early in the morning...no water on either side of the trail...it was eerie silent...only a few distant woodpecker sounds...no wildlife...I didn't see one bird until I reached the bridge...only thing I found to shoot was spider webs...talked to one couple from Indiana...they had visited the park several years ago and were really impressed with the park...so they had to make a return visit while in Texas...they just could not believe the conditions in the park...talked to another lady from Deleware who had heard so much about the alligators at the park that she had planned a trip down to visit...she was really disppointed that she could not get any closeup views of any alligators...despite the dry conditions, it was still a nice visit and I did manage to get a few photos...here are a few...hope you enjoy...C/C always welcomed...

Ron

Terrific, Ron! Glad you found the feeder at the Visitor's Center I was talking about. I really enjoyed seeing them coming in to feed when I was there.

Thanks Sandy...there was certainly lots of activity around the feeder...they were certainly not distracted by my presence...I had my camera on tripod and moved around the feeder to get some shots from different angles...if I had been in my truck, I may have checked with the park ranger to see if it would have been ok to set up one of my portable perches near the feeder...I always carry a few of them in the back of my truck...have portable perches will travel...
