Thanks Bruce! I was fairly close, about ten feet or so and I don't think it saw me because two hikers came down the trail and it slithered off the log into the water.. I hate it when that happens

OK, I need some advice. I'm considering going to BBSP with my boyfriend for photography but I am absolutely petrified of snakes. Should I skip this?

I wouldn't worry too much about snakes there. I've been to BBSP at least 40 times over this last year and have seen 2 snakes - one was on a log in the water about 10 feet from the trail, and the other was about 10 inches long and was in a hawk's mouth.

That's encouraging. I kayak at Armand bayou with my BF and cameras and have never seen one there either. I don't go looking for them though.

It is my understanding that kayaking is not allowed at BBSP?

I've been going out there sometimes several times a week since it opened in April 1984. I guess that I've seen one or two snakes a year, but I'm always trying to find them and maybe get a photo or two.... You're right no boats no wading in any of the little lakes. I think it's a nice fine if you do.
I've been doing nature photography out there since 1993...lots of subjects all year long.
