Yellowstone in October - 11-01-2011, 06:51 PM

Critique: NC:

Okay, my turn to share. Got back from Yellowstone a little over a week ago and here are some of my shots. You can read all about our "adventures" if you choose over at my blog (Michael's Blog | My Thoughts and Pictures), but for now, here are some of my favorites from the trip...

Thanks for all the advice and such that I received here before we went!

Thanks Guys. It it tough going there because once you go, you want to go back. But at the same time, there are so many other places to go too. Now I'm really torn on where to go for our next adventure.

Beautiful series! Love the first and second ones, but they are all fantastic!

Thanks all. I'm glad you enjoy them. I truly enjoyed being there. In fact, I was tempted to call my boss and point them to the live web-cam at Old Faithful and then go hold up a sign that said "I QUIT! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME COME BACK!" :) But then I decided that I like things like food and new camera equipment so... We do what we must; to do the things we enjoy.

I was wondering if you were going to post some photos!

You are right, once you go there, you want to go back. Alaska is the same way, but what makes them so special is that we are not there all the time. Rather, we have to make time in our lives to visit places like those. Time spent in a place like Yellowstone with family and/or friends ends up being some of the best times of our lives.

My favorites are the bison, the bull elk and the grizzly (both shots).

Very nice impressions. They all look a little underexposed to me though.

Thanks.

And André, yeah, I have a tendancy to go a bit under. I've calibrated my monitor but haven't quite found that perfect spot for exposure, even in Lightroom. I've always been told to shoot -1/3 with Canon, and it does seem to make things pop a bit more, but yeah, they are a little dark. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. It's always hard to tell if it's just me and my monitor or others as well.

André,

I went back and lightened them up a bit in lightroom (except for the first one). How does that look to you?

Also, can someone give me the short answer of what is the difference between the "Brightness" slider and the "Exposure" slider in lightroom? They seems to do the same thing to me.
