Bird ID Help Needed - 11-13-2011, 05:43 PM

Critique: NC:

I was able to spend about an hour at Lafitte's Cove Nature Preserve in Galveston and I got a couple of photos of this bird. It was small and was in a pretty dense thicket. A birder that came over to see what I was looking at told me, after seeing the photos on my lcd, told me that it was a black-throated blue warbler, but after getting home and looking at it on my computer screen, I don't think that is right. So I decided to bring it to the experts!

Thanks in advance.

After looking up a few photos I think I agree with you. It might be a female, but the photos I saw showed a bit of white on the wings. Don't see it here, but they could vary
quite a bit.

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Black-throated Blue Warblers are uncommon (maybe rare) migrants in spring and fall.

Yeah, too bad it wasn't a Black-throated Blue Warbler.

Thanks to everyone for looking and commenting.

Nice looking little guy. The little ones don't stay in one place very long.

Yeah, it took about 10 minutes to get a clear shot and then I had about 10 seconds. Not great shots, but it was dark and I didn't have much time. These are ~70% crops.
