Deer Time - 12-04-2011, 11:21 PM

Critique: NC:

Cooler temperatures and shorter days make me want to look for deer.  So far this year that search has been fruitful as I've seen lots of deer roaming east to west.

I'm glad that the season is just getting started as there are lots of opportunities to come.

I shot most of the images from the seat of my truck.  Drive around and you'll be surprised how close you can get to wild deer when you stay in your vehicle.

Nice series of deer photos...cool capture with #7...looks like maybe some competition in #8...did the two bucks tangle with each other?

Good stuff. How do you get to a focal length of 1000mm like in image #5?

Hi Ron,

That mule deer buck just watched while the whitetail did his thing.

Thanks!

That 1000mm was accomplished with a 500mm and a 2X extender.

Very nice collection of captures Russell!

#3 and #6 are my favorites. I'm headed out that direction in about a month and hope to catch a few myself.

Always great to see Muleys, we get mostly White-tailed around Houston. You're right about staying in the vehicle. A bean bag can help out the window. Hope you got some of the recent rain up there too....

We have had some rain up here, Bruce. It's good to see it falling again.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
