It fit perfect in the new casing and it seemed like this was going too well...Then when they hooked it up to test it...Nothing.
So I left and called them last night after biting my teeth all day to find out if they got the files up. Still nothing. They suggested to send it off to an outside company that extracts files from hard drives. But I have plan B in the works. Someone in my family is a computer wizard and can do it.
So I won't know anything for at least a week. I can't imagine how much that would cost sending it off to some company I know nothing about.
I have a lot of photos backed up but only web size. I have around 40 CD's with older pictures.
I lost a lot of BBSP, Smithville, High Island, Bald Eagles,Three Weddings.
I can't believe I relied on that one external hard drive. This lesson has taught me to save full resolution pictures on Pbase/Myflickr from now on.
What's so funny is I asked for another external hard drive for Christmas because my one that broke was almost full. I was planning to go through and DBL backup my favorites.
Now I did save a lot just in case something did happen. So I'm not totally out depressed.
Now I know how Tim feels when he lost his.
I had the same worry...so one of my gifts on my Christmas list for last year was a new external hard drive...now I have two and use the second one as a backup...good luck...hope you can recover everything...

Great set Sandy. Looks like you had a heck of a enjoyable time. Hope you recover your hard drive pictures.

OMG! Sandy, these are awesome photos. You must be a bird whisperer. My nephew called me and told me that I needed to check out the TC Dike thread on Pixtus. He said there were some awesome photos and one of a pelican with a whole fileted flounder in its pouch. Sure enough, he was right. Wow.

Patti

I was there the night before watching them eat what seemed to be barnacles off the pier. I tried to get closer but my presence made them nervous. So with that they were swimming away from me.
So the next morning I went down there again and this time I found a fisherman cleaning his catch. We talked for a while and he let me know when he was about to throw a cleaned fish into the water.
This time the pelicans didn't care about me at all. They wanted food.
So I sat on the rocks near the water, almost level to get that special shot.

Makes me happy a phone call was made because of this post. Thanks!
Tell your nephew I appreciate that very much.

Although the whole series is great, the Oystercatcher poking his head up is a real winner. The fact that he/she has an Oyster makes it even better!

As for the banded bird, you should report that, particularly since you have photo documentation. That sort of information is critical to our understanding of shorebird ecology. You can report them here - Shorebird Resighting Information - How and What to Report

Having nature photographers report stuff like this is really important. It is one of the best ways we can be heard as "consumers" of the wildlife resource and as participants in the process of protecting our diminishing natural resources. It tells the researchers that not only are we interested in photographing wildlife, but we care about it beyond our camera view.

Chris - thanks for posting the link for reporting banded birds, I had forgotten about that site. There is another site that I have used: USGS Patuxent Research Center. The federal band in the web site is the metal band that you see on many birds.

Also there are a number of citizen scientist sites out there to report sightings. The first one that comes to mind is to report Hummingbirds and Monarchs is Journey North. These sorts of reports help out the people that monitor the natural world.

Scott

Thanks, Chris and Scott. I've seen several different birds with bans such as Mockingbirds, Hummingbirds, and now Oystercatchers/2 of them now.
