I thought I posted these earlier but don't find them. If they show up twice, my apology. Took these this week around the neighbor hood. The does are Melanistic. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

Nice images Michael...the buck appears to be pretty comfy in his citified environment and not too worried about being hunted...is the melanistic doe the same deer in both pictures or were there two of them? Wasn't that familiar with melanistic so I had to look it up...appears to be a rare occurence in Whitetails so it looks like a very nice discovery for you to document in your photos...

Ron, there were 2 melanistic does that day. We have had them around for years but only see them maybe 5 or 6 times a year. There seems to be pretty stable population of them. Parks & Wildlife did a story on them years ago and stated that maybe 2 or 3 % of the deer in Comal country were Melanistic. Last year we had twin fawns around our yard and one was normal and one Melanistic. I have never seen but 3 different bucks, most are does.

I've seen a ton of our deer here in Central Texas, but never this "melanistic" version.
Interesting! | | | |

Howard, David & Leon glad you enjoyed the photos. I have been enjoying the outdoors in Texas for a long time and have never found the Melanistic deer anywhere but in Comal county. I see maybe 3 or 4 different one each year.
