I was so lucky to isolate these birds {jays-wdpkrs} to 3 different perches.I was on a sloping cliff with just Yucca and Century Plants.

You have to go as you won't know what your missing till you see this place.Chisos Mtn.is the place to camp as it 7000+' and cooler there than the rest of the park. The drought had affected the park so much and Chisos was so dry that all the wildlife was in the lower elevations. Two weeks before I got there the Rangers closed Chisos campground because the cougars were systematically going from campground to campground looking for food. One ranger was trapped with his dog in the restroom for two hours with a cougar pacing outside. The black bears were very thin from hardly any berries in the summer and very small acorns on the Oaks in the fall. The bears were climbing the trees and stripping them of the smallest acorns I have ever seen.

That was the first time I have seen three woodpeckers on a century plant before.

Very nice, what lens where you using, the BOKEH is great - very creamy and smooth.

Thanks Paul

The lens is a Nikon 200-400 f/4 vr1.All shots were handheld with a 1.4 converter shot at F5.6.I'd recommend this lens as you just can't go wrong with it.It has the sharpness of a prime throughout the focal range.
Thanks for looking and I appreciate the comment.

OK, I give. What kind of demands did the 3 woodpeckers in the last shot make of you in order to pose for that shot? All of the photos are superb but that one - WOW!

Dynamite stuff, Dennis. In what part of the park did you find these guys?

Thanks Bill
These were shot in the no generator zone of Chisos Basin camping area.On the turnaround area there is a cliff off to the left side.Finding them there isn't always easy though.I camped very close by and watch and listened for them.
Hope this helps.
