Red-tailed Hawk

This is a discussion on Red-tailed Hawk within the Nature and Wildlife forums, part of the Showcase category; As big as these guys are, they seem more skittish than the smaller songbirds....

John, I'll give it a try....I am going to go with a Red Tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis). A very nice capture, good job!

Either a Red Tail or a Cooper's Hawk. They look very similar.

That is correct. Based on my field I.D. card, however, Cooper's has red eyes so I think I'm going with Red-tailed on this one.

Def a red tail. Coopers are slimmer and their tail feathers are much longer past the end of the wings.
