I like them all, but nbr 5 the best (I like actual habitat shots with some camo involved)!

#1 and #2 : a closer shot would bring out the details of the subject, nice light though

#3 : nice focus, but the shadow make it difficult to make out the detail of the eye

#4 : neat composition with the tree, but there is a lot of contrast which obscures the subject

#5 : nice light, and nice focus

#6, #7, #8 : Nice blue sky and focus, would be nice to see a bit more detail though

#10, #11 : nice focus and lighting, maybe crop so that the subject is a larger percentage of the frame (not so much negative space)?

All the shots are very nice with good technicals. I would suggest that most could be improved by tighter crops, particularly the first two and the last one. Nice shooting!

Looks like you have got some good comments. Is that a radio transmitter on the crane?

Thanks! - 01-08-2012, 09:55 PM

Thanks for all the kind and encouraging comments! I forgot to mention that these were taken with a 7D and 100-400mm. All except #1, 2, and 10 were shot from car.

#1, 2: I liked how calm the water is (relatively) with the warm light on the heron. Coming from another part of the Texas coast where it's usually windy and the water choppy, it was refreshing so I wanted to show more of the water.

#5: He was probably only about 20 feet away.

#6, 7, 8: We got a little disappointed when we didn't see the whooping cranes earlier on the trail. But as we were rounding out the last bit of the trail, my wife spotted them flying towards us, so I stuck the camera out the passenger side window and started shooting. These made the trip all worthwhile. It does look like some kind of transmitter on the leg.

#10: The color of the water from the sunset was gorgeous so I wanted to incorporate that.
