Thanks Scott. No dead mouse but I probably smelled like one at this point.

Great shots, Tim. Bolivar is the happy hunting ground for Perigrins, isn't it. I need to get there soon.

Tim, what gear are you using to get these shots? Camera, lens, are you using the Better Beamer light thing? Also, what are you using for your ground pod?

Thanks in advance for the info. Your shots are far and away the best I've ever seen, in print or in forums.

ground pod right out of B&H website with riser block. bh55 or perhaps bh40 head. wimberly sidekick gimble head with combo 6 sidekick bracket for flash. 7D with 100-400mm L lens. better beamer on a 580 or 580 ii. he can correct me, but that is close. i think it is the guy behind the equipment more than the equipment as he pulls this off with a 40D when he kills his 7D. it also the desire to lay down in the sand and muck.

Avatar is me exiting Wakulla Springs after a 50 minute ride at 280'. Photo shot at 120' during decompression by Steve Auer - a phenomenal underwater cave photographer.

Thanks Aileen. That's very kind of you.

Scott pretty much nailed my gear as I've shared some info with him. I use a 7D with 100-400 lens on Skimmer ground pod with RRS BH-55 ball head, Wimberly sidekick gimbal mount, flash bracket, 580 EX II flash with better beamer. I'll post a picture of it one of these days.

I'm teaching a class at Galveston's FeatherFest in April on using a ground pod. I'll share what I know about getting down low. Check out this link to some more info on my blog: Teaching Classes at 2012 Galveston FeatherFest « Tim Timmis Photography

Very nice, clear and sharp. Love the play of light and shadows as well.

Thanks for the info guys. Tim, I saw on your website that you were speaking at Featherfest...that's a great deal for $20!! Would love to come but have some serious conflicts with that weekend...my husbands family flies in from all over the country to celebrate the Baytown American Cancer Society Relay for Life, which is that Friday. Also, my very best friend's daughter is getting married that Saturday.

I bought the Better Beamer after stalking your website, have the RRS bh55, only have the 70-200 with the 1.4 extender AND shoot full frame. Ouch. Am thinking of renting a long lens and sidekick head and seeing how the weight feels. Rented the 100-400 on a trip to Grand Tetons and it's just not long enough for my full frame to get anything worth printing. The ground pod is interesting, looks like a must have. Haven't been very successful with the better beamer but that's probably because my lens is too short. Getting eye-level is key for that beautiful perspective in your images.

I agree with the others...it's definitely the man behind the gear. Your images are amazing!!

Thanks again Aileen. The beamer won't work too well with shorter lenses. I see that you live in Baytown. That's where I work so I could show you my ground pod set up after work sometime, maybe at the eagle site. I'll send you a PM.
