A few more from the prairie - 01-15-2012, 05:02 PM

Critique: NC:

I was just thinking about the hawk population where I've been shooting lately... the next good cold front may very well push them further south so opportunities like these may not present themselves so often in the near future. The Red-shoulder hawk shot has no cropping. It just sat there and posed... more concerned with finding food than some one-eyed thing in a white box I guess. The Red-tailed Hawk shot is minimally cropped. It stuck with the carcass when the Turkey Vultures left. The Crested Caracara wasn't too far off but it is cropped

Yeah, these are really good. I love it when I can fill the frame as you did with these. The detail is amazing.

The youngsters seem to sit the best. If I could get a Northern Harrier to sit still or at least fly by inside of 100 meters I would be happy... for now I guess I'll be happy with RTH and RSH shots

Great job Michael! I am assuming you shot these with your big boy lens :)

Amazing detail, Michael! I can't help but wonder if #3 is eying a potential snack.

Thanks everyone.

The first one was a total fluke. "Buzzards" flew off of a carcass and landed on the nearby fence as I was driving by. I stopped, backed up actually, to attempt some shots but the sun was blowing everything out. Just before I drove off I looked down to see what they were eating and I saw the hawk.

Paul- I've been airing out the 800 a lot lately.
