Here are a few of my snow geese snaps froom the recent trip to NM Highlands! One of the many Gaggle "Blast Offs". If you have never seen this awesome sight or heard the great calls echoing thoughtout the valley, you are missing something you must see someday!! Sorry for the "burn outs" , I just didn't pay enough attention to settings (was too excited by what I was witnessing)!!

I can imagine the sound! We had a lot of Canadian Geese that used to fly through near Chicago.

Terrific series Leon! The first two and the last are my favorites. Those first two look almost abstract - the birds are so dense that you don't recognize what you are seeing until you look closely. Great stuff!

Fabulous series, Leon! I love the first two photos!! I been trying to get a photo like that for many years. I used to see them in the fields going out to BBSP several years ago, but I'm sure they have found another area to feed and rest and I don't see them anymore.

Great series of photos. I had a similar experience years ago in the Panhandle but didn't have a camera with me. The sound, up close is deafening.

Thks a lot Tim, it was one of the best weeks of "wildlife chasing" I've ever experienced (even with the closures.)
Thk you Fred, yep, the gagles gave many "blast" & I definitely had one every day!!

Oh my gosh! Leon, you did a great job! I've always admired Artie Morris's Bosque photos and yours are just as exciting and beautiful. I love the blast off shots! They are just outstanding - all different and all so interesting. I especially like the background in the third one, but the first has to be my favorite.
You got fanastic separation on the group shot of geese and on the one with the two geese, the placement of the geese with the mountains in the background is perfect timing!

I'm seriously thinking of renting a car for next season. I will need to plan where I'll be spending the nights. I don't know anything about this area. After seeing your posts I am getting interested for a nice road trip.

Thks for looking Sandy-You really need to go, as you will enjoy it alot!! I would suggest staying in Socorro, NM where there are several of the popular Motels & at very reasonable rates. I stayed at the Super 8 for about 48 dollars per nite. The Bosque del Apache Nwr is about 16 miles south of Socorro in the Rio Grande river valley. Shoot, I have tons of photos I haven't even touched yet. Weather permitting, You will be glad you went!!
I might go again before the winter is over & will for sure go again next Dec with this crazy FM bunch.

The Bosque is a magical place and I am looking forward to going back again one day. I really like the fact that you captured a Ross's Goose in flight!
