I don't know the Wimberly model I use offhand, but it attaches directly to the lens plate on my lens, not the Wimberly head. That way, if I want to go handheld quickly, I just remove the whole lens/flash assembly from the tripod and shoot. Anything to get the flash up higher off the camera would help, even a flash bracket intended for attaching to the camera, like wedding photogs use.

Sid,

That's the same model I have as well. I'm looking at getting an extension for it though because I'm still getting some of the steel eye depending on the distance to the subject.

I forgot about the Wimberley that attaches to a lens plate. I got mine so long ago they only had the one dedicated model at the time.

I do still get some reflection in the eyes on occasion also, but usually not too bad that I can't take care of it in post. The benefits of using the extra flash are generally worth risking the occasional steely eye to me.

That is not necessarily true. I have a Wimberley Telephoto bracket that can be used on any tripod collared lens. It simply attaches to the lens plate.

You can use it on any gimbal head , vertical or horizonal, or even a ballhead as long as you have room to attach it to the lens plate. Wimberley has several different attachments that allow you to customize the setup to your rig.

I use a BB off and on. I would rather not use it but if your shooting in conditions with shadows it is necessary. As mention before I start out at a -2 EC and work from there until I get it right. A flash bracket is a must to get proper use of the BB and flash. Just be careful and don't point it toward the sun or you can cook your flash.
