Some birds on my way to the golf course - 02-06-2012, 05:00 PM

Critique: NC:

When I headed out to the golf course today, I left about an hour early and put my camera in the cart with me. Snapped these before teeing off. Some are heavily cropped since most didn't let me get close and I wasn't able to just take my time.

David, I was in Huntsville this past weekend and saw #6 woodpeckers for the first time. They were beautiful, so close and no camera. One on these days while up there I need to take a drive through your area.

Nice course, we have a golf buddy who lives there.

They price it a little high for guest's.

My only gripe when we played there was the greens just won't hold the ball.

Been playing Ravens Nest since it opened.

David, from looking at my field guide book, it appears they are Northern Flickers. According to the guide, they forage on the ground as well as in the trees.

Thanks Ron. I hope to be able to get a little bit closer next time so I can get a blurred background.

Hey David
In pic #6,a pair of flickers clearly shows the male on the left(with black malar near the beak) and the female on the right without that marking.Easy to see the difference in your image here.Hope this helps.
Great pics by the way.
