Brown Jay - 02-06-2012, 10:39 PM

Critique: NC:

In the United States, the Brown Jay is only seen in the lower Rio Grande Valley near the Rio Grande River. They are rarely seen and some years none are seen.

As far as I know, this is the only Brown Jay currently being seen in the United States. Brown Jays have been absent from this particular location for the past five years and this one appeared in early December 2011. Since then it has made short appearances on most days. The background on these are not the most appealing, but sometime you have to take what you can get.

So, if you want to photograph a truly rare United States bird, just make a quick trip to Salineno, Texas on the banks of the Rio Grande River.

Pretty neat looking bird. I didn't know they even existed until recently.
