The camouflage that this seahorse uses is pretty good. I am guessing that it is either very tasty to a predator, and/or is very slow to reproduce (hence the heavy camouflage). From the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Great shot John! They have some of these down at the Dallas World Aquarium. For the most part the camo is because they are very slow. They typically will drift in clumps of seaweed vs. open water.
