Very nice work Bill...particularly of the Silverback where all those dark colors make for an added challenge in getting good balanced lighting. But you succeeded admirably!

Thanks, I really liked the first one myself, and that unusual for me to like my own work... If you know what I mean.

You've suceeded for sure. I say: "Call National Geographic now." :)

One question: hand-held or monopod?

Thanks you very much, I can only dream of being as good as those guys are.

Here is a different crop of number one, what do you think if it.

Prefer First Crop - 05-30-2005, 12:07 AM

I prefer the first crop where both of the Ape's shoulders are showing; just seems more balanced and "apish."

The more I look at them side by side I think you are right.
I guess I am just going to have to print both of them.

My sister looked at them and said the same thing, she liked the first one the best.

Nice shots, Bill. How did you solve the red eye/green eye problem? Angle the flash, diffuser, some other method?

Thanks Glenn,

I had no problem with it at all, I think it was because I was so far away. The shot was taken at full zoom, on the E1, that is 400mm, it has a 2x crop factor. I also had the Omni bounce on the flash.
There was a white dot form the flash but I just cloned it out.

Great shots Bill!! Im a huge fan of tight crops, so these are right up my alley! Good job capturing the emotions and expressions of the animals. Love it when you can get close enough to see into their eyes!

Awesome job!

Awesome shots Bill! Dang, I didn't come anywhere close to those and I was standing right next to ya. Just goes to show what an awesome photog can do with a camera.
I'm pretty sure the gorrilla was flipping ME off. LOL. The only decent shots I got today is of the gorrilla giving me that look like, "Too bad this ain't the Dallas zoo, because I would truly like to jump the fence and rip your head off". He scared me! LOL.
Anyhoo, fantastic job. Post more when you have time.
