Drove out east, again, and the clouds finally parted for the most part and the winds died down. Had a glorious day of driving around the back country roads south of Brenham. I was much better prepared, today, than I was last Saturday, when I just drove out to see what I could find. Today, I had maps laid out and a plan of attack and I was very pleased with what I managed to find. I'd say the wildflowers are pretty much at there peak, right now, at least in both Washington and Austin Counties. I'm afraid in another week or so, the tall grass and weeds will start to spoil many photo opps.
Here's some of what I've fooled with so far.

Wow, Bob, this is one of the best series of wildflower pics posted yet this season. Very well done. I especially like the first one of the cow in the bluebonnets.

Wow... You hit a goldmine. I drove from Columbus to Cat Spring then on to New Ulm then Frelsburg and back to Columbus... but I didn't see anything that good.

Thanks, folks. Here's a few more from yesterday.
Anyone heard if anything's happening out in Hill Country, yet?

Here's some of what I've fooled with so far. | Very nice, Bob! I love the Industry area for flowers. It is usually much less visited so you don't have nearly the traffic that you do in the Chappel Hill/Independence area.
I agree with your thought regarding the peak. I drove through there yesterday and already one of my favorite fields is starting to get overgrown. Overall, though, the color in that area is spectacular!

Tim | I've decided my runs out east of Austin are over for this "season" and I've got a 3 day weekend coming up and I'll be out in Hill Country, hopefully finding some decent wildflower blooms with a bit more of a dramatic backdrop than the rolling farm land out around Brenham. Not putting that area down (I loved stumbling across the old cemetery in Shelby, as well as the cattle in the wildflowers), but I'm ready for something a bit more different.

I was in the Marble Falls area this weekend (only a very limited amount of time for photography). The flowers are starting to look good in that area. Quite a few good patches, but nothing like the Brenham area. Very little around Austin. A lot of the bluebonnets looked like they are still in the early stage of bloom, but with the recent rains, I imagine that they will take off.

Can you give me some directions in Industry? I went up that way yestersay and got some good shots around Independence but wasn't really sure where to head in Industry. I hope to get out at the end of this week and would love to go someplace where I could do some portraits without so many people around. Old Baylor was crazy with people.

Hi, Joanne.
To get to Industry, go south out of Brenham on Hwy 36. About a mile south of Hwy 290, you will come to Hwy 109. That takes you to Industry. Industry is about 20 miles west of Bellville.

I did a quick drive thru Industry yesterday, but wasn't sure actually where to go once I was there. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
