Quick Visit to Caldwell Zoo - 12-28-2007, 05:43 PM

Haven't gotten to do as much shooting with the D300 as I'd like since getting it, so durign the holiday weekend I decided to make a quick trip over to the Caldwell Zoo while we were visiting family in Longview. The mountain lions are gone from my previous visit, but now they have some white tigers.

As always, feedback/suggestions/critiques welcome.

Bobcat, 1/60s f/4.0 at 360.0mm iso1600

Red Fox, 1/125s f/4.0 at 200.0mm iso720

White Tiger, 1/125s f/4.0 at 240.0mm iso320

A few more in the gallery here, some of which are actually from my first visit in 2005 that I never got around to posting till now.

very nice Jeff, I'm a little amazed at the bobcat at iso 1600 WOW, the eyes on the fox and tiger, very nice, I would of expected a much lower iso. wonder what it would do at iso 100, starting to get the fever!

Darn tiger obviously prefers Canon shooters...

Nice grabs. What focus point setting did you use on these?

Very nice job Jeff. Great colors and DOF.
I thought I remembered you being set up at the lions in 2005, with that long lens. I haven't been back to the zoo since then, but have been to the Rose Garden a few times when we visit Tyler. Did you know there is also a Tiger refuge just north of Tyler near the State park?

Very nice Jeff. I live here & had no idea there was a zoo in Tyler. I need to get out more.

The Tiger Refuge is indeed north of Tyler State Park on the east side of Hwy 14 about 1 mile south of the 4-way stop at Hwy 14 & Hwy 16 in Red Springs, TX.

Next time you're up this way give me a shout. I'm usually at home around holidays.

Very nice Jeff!

I have looking forward to seeing some shots from the D300. Looks like it would make a good wildlife camera. Were you using the 200-400 f/4 VR?
