Recent zoo visit - 03-16-2008, 02:51 PM

I've been working a lot of hours lately and haven't had as much time for photography or forums as I'd like, but I did manage to get away early one afternoon last week for a visit to the zoo.

As always C&C appreciated.

The trip was well worth your time! Fantastic photos! I have got to get over there one these days… I’ve been saying that forever seems like.

Jeff, You got some wonderful photos. The pose on the Mandarin Ducks is great and I really like the way the tiger is posing for you. Looks like he was in a studio and taking direction. And the look on that orangutan's face is so funny. I suspect if they knew how to flip the bird, you would have gotten it.

Great shots Jeff. The tiger pose is awsome and a challenge to get at the zoo. Good work.

the tiger and monkey were posing for you! Great shots! I made it out to the FW zoo few weeks ago for the first time and loved shooting the animals. Which Zoo was this? Houston? Is there only one Zoo in Houston?

Jim - thanks for the kind words.

Patti - Thanks. I got pretty lucky with the tiger, I've never seen one of them get up on that big log in their exhibit before. The tiger exhibit is less photo friendly now that they have no barriers up so this was doubly lucky.

Tim & Andrew - thanks for the feedback.

Bobby - Thanks. These were at the Houston Zoo (there's only one). The FW Zoo is excellent, very photo-friendly.

Wow.. those are awesome!
My favorite is the 2nd one with the ducks. Great color, great composition, great timing.
And it's a rare opportunity to shoot any of the tigers there posing like that.
Great job.

Roy

OMGosh! These are all great shots! If I had to pick just one, I would have to go with the tiger, the pose and the framing are outstanding.

Beautiful shots! I like the tiger the most!
Jeff, the trip releases some stress from our work lately, didn't it? If you have some spare time on the weekend, we can go and shoot flying birds at High Island! You will like it!

Spectacular images! The tiger is just fantastic and the orangutan posed nicely and gave you a nice expression. Those mandarin ducks are very vivid. You captured the color well.

Jeff - Really nice shots. What lens did you use on the D300? The texture/color of the ferns and the log, and the lighting of your tiger shot are perfect.

Jeff, I don't mind driving! If our work schedule allows (hopfully not like last weekend!), I'll go this Saturday. It does not have to be early though. The light is good only after 3 or 4pm.
