UGH! I had shot some images early this morning in gorgeous light, and while protecting and deleting I accidentally reformatted the CF card-bye, bye images . Just ask Jim (jfoureyes), he heard me moaning and groaning...

Lesson learned- if the formatting option comes on the screen, push the Menu button

I did photograph this Daisy Fleabane on the way back to my car, though

Pull the card immediately! Do not take ANY Pics! The shots are still there, only the "map" to them has been changed. There are various software that will recover the "map" & presto... the pics are back.

Therese next time will be tons better! I was certain that I had brought you buzzard luck and I felt sooooo terrible for your misfortune. But I did get to see that “one” image you shot before I got there this morning. I hope you made time to study your manual so it won’t happen again. I hate new stuff and have to study! I almost fell over in the wildflowers when you told me you formatted your memory card. Even a digital greenhorn like myownself knows that ain’t a good thing.

Well...it looks like the trip wasn’t a complete bummer… this is a very nice photo. I looked for one like this all morning and didn’t find one as good. It was great spending some time with you this morning and I hope to see you out there again real soon. You know where I’ll be shootin’ for the next several weeks.

Therese, check out Data Doctor Recovery here:
http://www.datadoctor.org/

It is free to download and use for a trial period.
I downloaded it and tested it on a formatted 4 gb CF card. It found not only the few files I had on it that I had deleted for the test, but all the previous files from a shoot...and recovered them.

Same with a hard drive. Since I had one Windows Explorer wouldn't recognize (but it did show up in the computer BIOS), I was able to recover many, many files that I thought were gone forever. I ended up buying the program for $69, but it was worth it to me.

Good luck.
Mike

Beautiful shot Therese!

I have some recovery software that came with my Sandisk cards I can send you if you want. It will do the job of recovering your deleted files.

Beautiful flowers, sorry to hear about the accidental delete. Like others have stated there is a way to recover some or all.
