My guess would be a painted turtle (Chrysemys picta)
Great shots btw, I love the colors.

I was thinking red ear at first as well. What made me question it was the orangish-red on the plastron (belly). But now that I look at it more closely, I think your right John, it looks like it has a keel (ridge running the length of the body on the top of the shell). Red ears have a keel, painted turtles do not. | | | |
