Western Kingbird flips a pond hawk - 07-20-2008, 12:16 PM

This particular Kingbird love to perch on this stick, i watched him catching insect left and right and will back on the same perch over and over again. Unfortuntely, i didn't get the landing shot the way i like it. I noticed how it flipped a dragonfly the day before, but it's far to late due to the shutter delay when i saw it. So, the next day i was ready..... Bring on the Dragon, King!

Bare 500, 1/1600s, f7.1, m2n, iso 320
bean bag from car, green algae background.

Correction made on dragonfly ID, it's an Eastern Pond Hawk, thanks Greg for the ID

Perfect timing Daniel! Was this part of a 'burst" or did you single shot it? Either way it is a bird watcher's wall hanger!

Burst at full speed, i let the machine gun do the talking as soon as i saw the dragonfly. :)24 shots in 3 seconds, and got 2 with catch on air.
