Japanese Gardens Heron - 09-18-2008, 01:36 PM

Hello, everyone! Last weekend, while visiting the Japanese Gardens in Ft. Worth, I was presented with an amazing opportunity to shoot a Great Blue Heron that was standing less than 10 ft. away from me. I have been trying forever to get a good close-up of one and have finally succeeded!

I shot this guy with my 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens. Crits and comments welcome!

Great closeup.. There have been a couple of them hanging out there for a couple years now. I don't know how long these guys live, so can't imagine its the same one.. must be a family that has learned there is good fishin' LOL

Thanks, Brad! I was talking with another visitor to the gardens before shooting and he mentioned that a couple of Herons had been living there for at least a year. This one was indeed enjoying some good fishin', though he was quick enough to keep me from getting a decent shot of him with a fish in his mouth!
