Does anyone know how old he was & what he was sick with?

While certainly sad that we will no longer be able to take photos of this magnificent animal, a HUGE set of thanks needs to go out to Pug Mark Park for saving Rocky and allowing him to live out his life in such a cool place.

I know I'm a better photographer for knowing him.

Here's one showing Rocky's size:

And here's an example of how he made me a better photog. I knew the minute he jumped I wouldn't get the shot and I swore the next time I'd be ready. Of course there never was a next time...

Rocky was 17 or 18 years old and died from a systemic infection that was unresponsive to treatment, despite all the best efforts of the Pug Mark family and attending veterinarians. Numerous treatments were attempted but Rocky seemed to have decided it was time to go and had essentially refused to eat.

Tom and I have discussed putting together a coffee table book of arguably one of the single most photographed tigers in the world. Goodness knows that Tom and I have hundreds of shots of him from over the course of the last few years of the tiger shoots and I'm sure that there are vast numbers of shots of Rocky from more than 400 other photographers that we could compile into a book.

If there is some interest in contributing images to a book, drop me a PM so that I can gauge participation and I'll see about setting to work on putting something together.

It was a great time to have the privilege of shooting these great cats! I'm glad I had the chance.

Wow, how sad. Rocky was one cool cat for sure!

One of my all time favorite shots of him:

Thanks Wes! I would love to, but I have a commitment with my family that morning-mid day. And darn it, I didn't have a wedding scheduled for once!

Thanks again for the invite. I will make it someday.
