Damn, that is dry down there. I heard that this was a problem for the Whoopers. Did you see any of them? I went out on a Crane boat tour last year, and would love to go again, with my new superior gear.... :)

Nice series. I really like number 2.

Bruce, the Whooping Cranes are still there in the largest numbers yet, but because of the drought the conditions they are spreading out farther from the confines of Aransas NWR. This is both good and bad. It's good to see them extending their range, but they are not as protected once they live the confines of the NWR. As fas I know, they are doing as well as can be expected given the conditions. I was down there in January and some good looks at them.

I didn't see any Whooping Cranes when I was there. Truthfully, I never have, but it's probably related to time of year more than anything. It's sad to see places like Jones Lake with grass growing in the middle of it. I'm talking no water...

Oh yes it's DRY! We have at least one brush/grass fire a day. I was out at ANWR about a month ago and it looked terrible so I can only imagine what it looks like now. There was still a VERY ( about 5ft in diameter) small pond at Jones Lake. It's looking very sad around here.
