Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G AF-S - 06-14-2009, 03:17 PM

Very soft at 1.8:

1/30s - f/1.8 - ISO 250

Best/Sharpest at 2.8:

1/20s - f/2.8 - ISO 320

1.8 Cropped:

Bokeh is awesome:

My personal comment: unacceptably soft at 1.8, best at 2.8. For the budget, this is one of the best prime lens. This is for nature, low-light shooting ... It would be the best if it had DOF control ring. Thanks

Nikon D80, ISO 100, F9, 5 seconds, Manual priority, Auto White Balance

The only modification is a small crop and RAW to jpeg conversion.

Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World... It was BUSY and I couldn't get a clear shot anywhere so there are a few people's heads at the bottom of the frame.

I love this lens. It is worth every cent and now stays on my camera body all the time. Whisper quiet and quick focus, affordable, and sharp(a little soft wide open). If you aren't going to shoot full frame anytime soon, then I recommend picking one up if you can.

It's nice to see samples from this lens!

If only I could find one in stock somewhere...

Same here. Is it a perfect lens? No, but for the money I think it's a great lens. As a matter of fact, now that I have a flash for my second body, it's doubtful that the 35 will be coming off of my D90 anytime in the near future.

I was talking to the Nikon rep at the the SFW Midcities Strobist meetup yesterday, and he said they should have more hitting the shelves in the near future. Apparently Nikon was completely surprised by the demand for the lens, so they're having to play catchup.

That's right, it is for budget to get a prime lens like this one. And we compare price ~ quality, this is one of the best.
I've got a friend working at a Nikon Authorized Store in Singapore, he said that this lens will be out of stock for a while because only made by a nikon factory in china, not in Thailand or china like the others.

there are lots of comments about how this lens is built, but so far it good. Lots of bs comments that it is made of cheap plastic, i think it really ridiculous. When I have it in hand, it got a feeling of better product not a cheap one.

More sample:

1/500 - f/2.8 - ISO 100 - sharpest aperture with a great DOF

Thread necromancy FTW!!!

Anyway, I'll play. My 35 1.8G is sharp at 1.8, so much so I believe that it is not the average sample of this lens. Due to that realization, I will not let mine go.

That's what I was wondering? Everyone says 35 but the pictures are of an 85. So maybe the OP took the pictures of the 85 with his 35 as an example? However, some of the above shots seem kind of tight for a 35mm perspective, so I'm back to wondering which lens is being discussed.

For the record, I have the 35mm and love it. I mainly used it when I had my D40 and D3000 since they wouldn't autofocus my 50mm 1.8. Now I tend to use the 50mm more often. That being said, if I'm shooting indoors I often revert back to the 35mm since I don't have as much room to back up.

If the OP hitek_man_vn used his 35mm f1.8G on his D700 (I assumed from the info he has on his handle) to snap a shot of a 85mm lens he is losing a lot of pixels because the 35mm f1.8 is a DX lens on his FX body.
